The Opportunity
NBS is seeking an Independent Contractor – Child and Youth Worker to support children and youth of diverse abilities in a class environment. The contractor will work closely with the Manager of Adaptive & Integrated Programming and collaborate with program staff to help ensure classes are welcoming, safe, and supportive for all participants. The contractor will bring specialized expertise in child and youth support, behaviour management, and inclusive practice, contributing to the growth and success of NBS’s adaptive programming. The schedule for this role is 4-5 hours a week on Sundays, and will be on-site.

Scope of Work (Services to Be Provided)
  • Provide 1:1 support to address immediate student needs within the dance classroom
  • Implement preventive de-escalation strategies, catered to the individual
  • Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team of educators and therapists
  • Support students with a variety of expressive and receptive communication needs
  • Support behavioural, emotional, and social development with a focus on building positive peer-to-peer social connections
  • Implement behaviour-management strategies and programs for identified participants across varied age groups
  • Contribute insights to the development of Individualized Student Safety Plans
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings as needed
Contractor Qualifications:
  • CYW certificate (Diploma or Degree)
  • Experience in child and youth work, education, recreation, or related fields
  • Demonstrated ability to support children and youth with disabilities or diverse learning needs
  • Strong commitment to inclusive, child-centred approaches
  • Crisis prevention and intervention training (with the Crisis Prevention Institute)
