The Role: 
Reporting to the Head of Residence, the Evening Residence Counsellor – Front Desk plays an essential role in supporting the safety, wellbeing, and personal development of boarding students while ensuring the efficient day-to-day operation of the Residence front desk. Working closely with Residence leadership and fellow counsellors, you will create a welcoming and inclusive environment for students, families, staff, and visitors while providing compassionate support and coordinating daily Residence operations. This role is ideal for someone who is compassionate, organized, and enjoys balancing meaningful student support with administrative responsibilities. Shift: Monday–Friday, 4:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.

What You'll Do: 

  • Support Student Wellbeing: Foster a compassionate, respectful, and safe environment by providing guidance, emotional support, and appropriate professional boundaries.  

  • Ensure Student Safety: Supervise students throughout Residence and during activities while promoting their wellbeing and adherence to Residence expectations.  

  • Support Daily Living: Chaperone students to classes, meals, appointments, activities, and events as required.  

  • Administer Student Care: Dispense medications in accordance with NBS policies and maintain accurate documentation and student records.  

  • Coordinate Front Desk Operations: Welcome students, families, staff, and visitors, respond to inquiries, manage incoming calls, emails, deliveries, and general correspondence, and maintain a professional reception area.  

  • Coordinate Student Information: Maintain attendance records, communicate student absences and appointments, and liaise with parents, faculty, and other departments to support student needs.  

  • Support Residence Administration: Assist with student account funds, scheduling, appointments, and other administrative responsibilities that support Residence operations.  

  • Respond to Emergencies: Respond promptly and professionally to emergencies, illnesses, accidents, or behavioural concerns while completing required documentation.  

  • Collaborate with the Residence Team: Work closely with Residence leadership and colleagues to support students and contribute to a positive, inclusive community.  

  • Maintain Professional Standards: Exercise sound judgement, discretion, diplomacy, and confidentiality in all interactions.  

What You Bring:

  • Diploma or degree in Child and Youth Care, Social Work, Child Studies, Psychology, Sociology, or a related field  

  • Two or more years of experience working with children and youth in a residential, educational, or recreational setting  

  • Administrative or reception experience is considered an asset  

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills  

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail  

  • Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment  

  • Sound judgement, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills  

  • High level of professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality  

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Google Workspace  

  • Ability to accompany students using public transportation when required 

Salary: 32,000 annually
