The Role:
Under the leadership of the Venue and Food Operations Manager, the Cashier helps create a welcoming café experience for students, staff, and guests at the Mona Campbell Square Café. From serving coffee and snacks to processing transactions and keeping the café organized and well-stocked, you'll play an important role in the daily rhythm of the NBS community.
This is a fast-paced, customer-focused role where no two shifts are exactly alike. One moment you might be helping a student between classes, and the next you could be restocking café items, processing transactions, answering questions, or preparing for a busy lunch rush. If you enjoy staying active, connecting with people throughout the day, and balancing multiple tasks in a collaborative environment, this role may be a great match for your strengths and working style!

- Help open and close café operations by stocking, replenishing, organizing, and preparing service areas throughout the day
- Prepare and serve coffee, baked goods, sandwiches, salads, snacks, and beverages to students and customers
- Operate the cash register and accurately process cash, debit, and credit transactions
- Maintain transaction records, reconcile cash, and assist with preparing deposits
- Provide friendly, efficient, and professional customer service while answering questions and supporting guests
- Help maintain clean, organized, and sanitary café and dining areas by following food safety and sanitation best practices
- Monitor café supplies and help ensure service areas remain stocked and organized during busy service periods
- Follow health & safety procedures and support a safe and welcoming environment for students, staff, and guests
- Balance multiple tasks throughout shifts, including customer service, restocking, cleaning, and cashier responsibilities
- Jump in wherever needed to support the team and contribute to the success of the Food Services Department
- Take on other duties as assigned - we're all part of making the experience great
- Grade 12 education or equivalent
- Minimum 2 years' experience providing excellent customer service
- Previous experience operating cash registers and point of sale systems preferred
- Food Handler Certificate and Smart Serve Certification are considered assets
- Strong numerical, organizational, and basic computer skills
- Confidence in handling cash and payment transactions accurately and efficiently
- Ability to multitask, stay organized, and thrive in a fast-paced school and café environment
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a friendly and professional approach
- Comfortable interacting with school-aged children, students, staff, and guests
- Knowledge of food service practices, food handling, and point of sale systems
- Strong attention to detail and ability to problem-solve in a busy environment
- Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to jump in wherever needed to support the team
